A message from the Provost

Posted on January 22, 2024

Dear Senate Chair Draves and Graduate Council Chair Sultana,

This afternoon I informed the faculty in the Department of Math that I am recommending the discontinuation of the PhD in Computational Mathematics. My recommendation is based on the Dean’s recommendation to discontinue to the master’s program, my review of data, the 2022 department self-study and external review report, and an institutional need to prioritize efforts to ensure students in lower-division math and statistics courses succeed, as these are critical to their overall retention and success. This recommendation will be added to the list of programs on the website.

This is the only additional recommendation I plan to make for this APR process.
