Academic Portfolio Review Timeline Update

Posted on November 20, 2023

Dear colleagues,

As you know, we’re undergoing an academic portfolio review. This best practice in higher education ensures we have the right mix of academic offerings to fulfill student needs, remain competitive, and allocate sufficient support for programs. UNCG has not completed such a comprehensive review of its programming in more than a decade.

I’m pleased to share that an updated timeline for the review has been posted on the Reinvention & Innovation website. This thorough reference spans and details the current portfolio review from its beginnings in late 2022 through its anticipated date of conclusion. It highlights our next steps going into 2024, which include key opportunities for campus stakeholders to consult with me and Chancellor Gilliam before final decisions are made.  Note that the timeline is fluid and that some dates may change.

Any changes to the University’s academic offerings will be decided early in 2024 and take years to implement. Students in any affected programs will be able to finish their studies at UNCG in their chosen majors as long as they maintain satisfactory academic progress.

Meanwhile, keep an eye out in the coming weeks for announcements of campus-input opportunities. And please accept my gratitude for your engagement in this critical process. Our shared fate, commitment to being proactive and responsive to higher education changes, and campus engagement underpins every step of the review.

Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving,

Debbie Storrs
